Solid, liquid or Gas

Hello Friends,

Now here again we've had a busy week here at school. All the students have been figuring out the difference between solids, liquids and gases. These are all states of matter. One of our assignments in class was to make up your definition of these three states of matter, if you'd like to check the dictionary definition of all of them you can look it up on this kids dictionary site.

After you think you've found the correct definitions and reviewed them go ahead and head on over to this game site where you will be able to separate different characteristics of each state to fill up the different compartments labeled solid, liquid and gas. Don't worry the thumbs up or down will tell you how your are doing.

If you thought that game was fun at all you'll love this one. Help the farmer get across the river by clicking on logs that describe similar states of matter. I hope you've got the states of matter down or else our little buddy is going to end up all wet!

Planets

Hello Again,

I hope everyone is having a fantastic week. This week we have been going over the planets and their order in our universe. Here's a little review if you've gotten rusty

• Mars


• Jupiter


• Saturn

• Neptune

Let's just start at the beginning. You can learn how all our planets got their names along with a great picture of them by click on them in the interactive solar system. Some them I would of never guessed! It also is a great explanation of how the planets orbit around the sun along with how fast each of them are travelling.

Here are some fun facts to learn about our neighboring planets so that you can surprise and entertain your friends on this solar system just role over rocket ships with the name of the planet you want to learn about and tada you just learned a fun fact. Aren't you going to sound smart!

Now here is your mission if you so choose to accept it. You can fly through the universe and try to retrieve space probes from every planet you visit. This is no light hearted mission though, do not be fooled to find the space probes you will have to be up on your planet trivia along with your quick fingers. Have fun blasting through space.

Be sure to make it back before class space rangers ;)

Animal Adaptations

Hello Friends,

This week has been a very exciting week. We have learned about animals and how they adapt to survive. Some of the animals we learned about this week have special adaptations that help them live in a certain area or even help them not get eaten by predators see if you can identify different animals adaptations in this game. You'll need to click on all the adaptations that the animal has and then hit the red button to see if you've got it right. You'll have to be quick though because you are being timed.

Now that you are all studied up try to take this quiz and see how much you know about animals and their adaptations! You may want to challenge a family member if you get really good at the quiz. Then you can show them how smart you are getting at school.

Here is something just for fun! Sled dogs have special adaptation like a thick winter coat to shield them from the cold. See if you can race a team of dogs through the Arctic snow to the finish line. You may have to "adapt" the route so that the sled dogs don't get lost.

Scientific Method

Hello 3rd Graders and Parents,

This week we have been hard at work in the classroom learning the scientific method. Every good scientist knows that to conduct a good experiment you must first understand the process you must go by.

Along with the process you need to know some scientific vocabulary as well and we have been working on that in science class as well as reading. Here are some activities to help you work on your vocabulary at home, maybe you can even teach your parents a thing or two about the scientific process. You can print them off if you'd like, also for an added bonus if you want to bring them to class finished them may bring you a couple of extra bonus points!

Or you can watch as Tim and Moby walk you through the scientific process as they try to figure out there scientific problem. If you have trouble logging on to this site you may have to sign up for the free trial. It's very easy and not time consuming. Kids you need to have permission from an adult to do it though!

Now if your still confused on the scientific method and where and why to use it just listen to my friend he'll explain in to you what you want to know. He will also explain to why why you must utilize the scientific method professionally and carefully.
